A man drowned Sunday morning at the Menahga City Beach after law enforcement was called to an incident.
The Wadena County Sheriff's Office was called to a report of an intoxicated male at the Menahga City Beach at 10:56 a.m. Sunday, July 31. The man had allegedly refused to leave after being asked. The caller said the individual was fully clothed and in the water.
According to the sheriff's office, an officer from the Menahga Police Department arrived and met with lifeguards. The individual ignored the request and continued to swim towards the raft. While doing this, the individual went under water a couple times and came back up but went under a third time and did not come back up, the sheriff's office reported. Lifeguards immediately swam to the location of the individual with their flotation devices and pulled the individual back above water. The party was unresponsive and was brought to the shore where CPR was started. CPR continued until Tri-County Ambulance arrived. The individual was airlifted to Essentia Health in Fargo, N.D. and was later pronounced dead.
The name of the individual had not been released as of press time pending notification of family members.
