Lucille Vareberg

Lucille Celia Vareberg, 92, rural Perham, passed away at the Henning Health Care Center in Henning on Nov. 21, 2007. She was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Platte Center, Neb. Her parents were the late William and Sarah (Piercy) Boddy. She grew up in Towe...

Lucille Celia Vareberg, 92, rural Perham, passed away at the Henning Health Care Center in Henning on Nov. 21, 2007.

She was born Dec. 1, 1914, in Platte Center, Neb. Her parents were the late William and Sarah (Piercy) Boddy. She grew up in Tower City and Oriska, N.D., on the family ranch. On June 6, 1931, she married Martin Vareberg in Valley City, N.D. They made their home and farmed in West Fargo, Tower City and Oriska, N.D. Since 1973, they farmed in Detroit Lakes and Perham, also making their home on Detroit Lake. On Aug. 1, 1995, Martin passed away. She has resided at home in Pine Lake Township, rural Perham. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, reading, and she loved her cats. She also enjoyed sitting outside watching her flowers and birds.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 24, at the Northwoods Harvest Barn in Detroit Lakes, with the Rev. Brian Erickson officiating. The pallbearers were Monte Vareberg, Randy Vareberg, Christopher Ewals, Marvin Vareberg, Jr., Matthew Block and Danny Vareberg. The honorary pallbearers were all of her grandchildren. She was laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Arrangements were provided by Karvonen and Son Funeral Home in New York Mills.

Survivors include her daughters, Lucille (Edgar) Ewals of Detroit Lakes; Betty Ann (Ted) Wilson of Phoenix, Ariz.; Helen (Eddie) Burns of Perham; sons, Norman "Red" (Gladys) Vareberg of Perham, Marvin "Whitey" (Darla) Vareberg of Detroit Lakes, and Roger Vareberg of Rapid City, S.D.; many grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Diane Vareberg of Detroit Lakes and Arlow (Naida) Block of Vergas; and many other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sarah; her husband, Martin; her brother, Bill Boddy; a grandson; and an infant granddaughter.
