Lloyd Barney Hallett, 76, of rural Verndale died May 17, 2006, at his home in Bullard Township.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1929, to Neal and Laura (Murdock) Hallett in Wadena County. He was educated in the Verndale schools and graduated from Verndale High School. He served in the Army during the Korean War and received a purple heart. He married Alice Kasper in October 1959, in Verndale. Together, they farmed in Bullard Township and also did logging. He enjoyed working, but also liked to fish, hunt and watch baseball.

Funeral services were held May 20 at the Verndale United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Mielke and Lowell Brenna officiating. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery with the Bielema Family Funeral Home in Verndale in charge of arrangements. Military honors were provided by the Elmer Goche VFW Post 3922 of Wadena. Casketbearers were: John Hunter, Dave Hunter, Joe Kasper, Jacob Umland, Cory Umland, Nathan Umland. Honorary casketbearers were: Kohl Hallett, Janessa Weaver, Jessica Weaver, Julius Dobozenski, Dick Kern, Leslie Hallett, Bobby Umland, Bob Hallett and all other close friends.

Survivors include: his wife; three daughters, Phyllis (Bob) Umland, Lila Weaver, and Lee Ann Hallett, all of rural Verndale; six grandchildren and one great grandchild; brother, Leslie Hallett of rural Verndale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Phillip and Noel; and granddaughter, Tristain.
