- Parade again will be at fairgrounds
The June Jubilee parade won’t run through downtown again this year, but will follow the same parade route as last year.
Shirley Uselman, executive director of the Wadena Area Chamber of Commerce, said the parade will be at the fairgrounds again this year and will follow the same route as last year through the north side of Wadena. Uselman said having the parade through downtown Wadena can be hard on businesses.
For years, the parade went down Jefferson Street, but Uselman said police have to close down the street early.
“Customers at downtown businesses have complained about parking the day of the parade,” Uselman said. “This (the new route) should help downtown business.”

- First robin reported here March 28
Mrs. Mildred Ebner, 1103 SE Second Street, Wadena, was the first local resident to call the PJ office on sighting the first robin of the season.
Mrs. Ebner said the spring bird hopped about on her lawn Wednesday morning (March 28).
AJ Tougas, 1627 Southbrook Drive, also reported seeing a robin Friday at 1:02 p.m. near his residence.

- This week’s issue is the largest Pioneer Journal on record
The 1969 Easter issue of the Pioneer Journal totals 32 pages, the largest in the 92-year history of the paper. The next largest was published in 1966 during the month of October, which was 28 pages.
Also published this week in the PJ is the Wadena County financial statement.

- Sixteen go fox hunting Sunday
The gun of Richard Martin brought down the only fox bagged in Wadena Rod and gun Club’s fox hunt Sunday. Sixteen participated in the hunt and while only one fox was killed, several enjoyed shots at the animal.
The fox bagged by the Rod and Gun Club brought the total of these animals killed in the county this year thus far to 79 adults and six cubs. In 1943 records at the office of the county auditor show that 155 adult foxes and six cubs were killed. Six adult wolves and s
