- Carr Sr. hands keys to Carr Jr.
Mike Carr handed over the keys to his son, Mike Carr Jr., on Tuesday after serving as Wadena County Sheriff for 28 years.
"For me, today is kind of a bittersweet day," Mike Jr. said Tuesday. "I've reached a goal that I've had for a long time. I've been running through these hallways since I was 7 years old."
- Ford was a healer
Gerald R. Ford, the 38th president of the United States and a man remembered as a healer and a devout human being, was laid to rest this week. He was 93.

- City third in crime rate
Wadena has the third highest crime rate in the state but also one of the highest rates of arrests for those violations.
Although that rate may seem high, it includes crimes such as bad checks, said Wadena Police Chief Lane Waldahl. It does not reflect a dangerous city, he said.
Those numbers include everything police respond to - including barking dogs.
- County, city prepare for bioterrorism
As the first county in Minnesota to run a bioterrorism drill, the city and Wadena County are looking to be equipped with basic response equipment in case of a bioterrorist attack.
"The trains that travel through this county can carry toxic chemicals," Dr. John Pate, emergency medical doctor at Tri-County Hospital, said at the Wadena County Board meeting Tuesday.
Pate described a possible scenario of a meth lab operator holding a mother and child hostage with mustard gas.

- Wadena chosen site of state horseshoe tournament
Wadena has been selected host city for the 1987 Minnesota State Horseshoe tournament scheduled Labor Day weekend at the new Community Center, according to Jack Joeffen, Wadena, tournament director.
"This tournament will run approximately four to five days with approximately 500 pitchers competing in this major sports event," Loeffen said. "Various clubs and organizations have been approached for funds to cover expenses. It is quite an honor to host this event which is expected to draw at least 1,200 visitors to our community," he indicated.

- Arrested for LSD possession
A young Wadena man was in custody in the Otter Tail county jail Friday, Dec. 31, facing a charge of possession of LSD, according to the Wadena County Sheriff's Office.

With the untimely death of Art Ousley, a colorful and historical page in the development of the Minnesota Highway Patrol has closed.
An original member of the Minnesota Highway Patrol in 1930 and more recently Wadena Police Chief, Arthur Ousley will long be remembered and revered as a friend, a companion and a contributing member of our society.

- Cootie Christmas tree pickup Sunday
Have that discarded Christmas tree on the curb by 1 p.m. Sunday and your worries of how to dispose of it will be at an end. This encouraging bit of news comes from the Wadena Military Order of Cooties, who will make the annual pickup.
- Wadena Masons occupy new temple
Representatives from 14 Masonic lodges were on hand Monday night to assist Wadena Masons in the housewarming of their new temple. Lodges represented were: Grand Forks, Milnor, Buffalo and Mayville, N.D., Wilton Junction and Nashwa, Iowa; Riverside, Ill., Indianapolis, Ind.; and the following lodges in Minnesota: St. Peter, Park Rapids, Minneapolis, Walker, Osakis, Verndale and Sauk Rapids.
