The Lady Wolverines volleyball team had another successful week, taking a pair of 3-0 wins from Frazee and Crosby-Ironton before finishing with a third-place showing at the Hawley Invitational Saturday.
Brigetta Berg sniped 20 kills to help the Lady Wolverines beat Crosby-Ironton Sept. 13 in Mid-State Conference action 25-20, 25-12, 25-17.
The Lady Wolverines were led offensively by Berg, Lorraine Endres, Brittany Ohrmundt and Courtney Volkmann. To further show the balance of the offense, Volkmann, the team's main setter recorded 39 assists and had three serving aces.
Defensively, the Lady Wolverines were led by their libero Steph Perkins who had 36 passes. Kelly DeFoe and Endres made their presence known at the net by recording blocks and forcing opponents to make swings they didn't want in order to avoid being stuffed. DeFoe finished with a team high five blocks to keep the Rangers frustrated offensively.
"Our defense is playing very well and keeping a lot of balls in play which always gives us a chance to score," said coach Sue Volkmann. "It was another good team game with everybody contributing."

Berg again dominated the net as the undefeated Lady Wolverines swept Frazee on Sept. 11. Berg had 18 kills and four stuff blocks in the three-game contest over the Hornets while DeFoe again made her presence known with eight blocks.
Both Ohrmundt and Endres paced the Lady Wolverines from the service line, going 13 for 14 with Endres tallying four aces and Ohrmundt with one. Volkmann had 32 assists and garnered two aces from the service line.
"We played a good all-around game against Frazee with the whole team contributing to the win and playing well," Volkmann said.
On Saturday at Hawley's eight-team invitational, the Lady Wolverines found themselves measuring up against some top teams. The format consisted of round-robin play against three teams, then seeding for a one match play-off.
WDC started against Ada-Borup and did not play its best volleyball, losing two games straight with scores of 11-25 and 25-27.
The second opponent was Frazee and the Lady Wolverines started to click a bit better, regaining some momentum to win 25-21, 25-12.
Match number three was against Crookston, and the Lady Wolverines came out ready to show their stuff and handled the Pirates with surprising ease, with the scores being 25-12, 25-15.
After going through its side of the round-robin set up, WDC had to settle for playing Wheaton in the third-place match. The Warriors gave the Lady Wolverines another tough test in which the team came through with flying colors, winning 25-22 and 25-23.
