The Lady Wolverine girls tennis team wrapped up the 2007 season under first year coach Darin Carstens with a banquet on Oct. 30. Many accomplishments were recognized throughout the evening as the team handed out end-of-season awards. Senior Amber Hayes was given the best record award, finishing with an overall 13-11 record. She was also named to the Mid-State All-Conference Honorable Mention team.
The Lady Wolverines Most Valuable Player award went to Katie Anderson. She was the lone Lady Wolverine to make the Mid-State All-Conference team.
The Lady Wolverine tennis team had 28 girls participating this year under the leadership of the three seniors: Kayla Guck, Jackie Kramer and Hayes.
Carstens said there will be a good nucleus coming back and players with varsity experience. In addition to the seniors, the varsity team members were Sam Eickoff, Hanna Larson, Elizabeth Quincer, Emily Ament, Sam Holweger, Katie Anderson, Andrea Jensen, Rachel Richter, Kelley Johnson and Jessica Rinkel. Also getting some varsity time this year off the junior varsity team were Haley Anderson, Brittany Anderson, Barb Scheiding and Brittany Ellingson.
The Lady Wolverines had to battle tough foes and the unseasonably wet weather conditions this fall. They opened the season with losses to Roseau (1-6), Perham (2-5), Pierz (0-7) and Park Rapids (1-6). The Lady Wolverines almost picked up wins against Detroit Lakes (3-4) and Crosby-Ironton (3-4) and were leading New York Mills 3-1 when rain forced cancellation of the match.

The weather was a nemesis for the team this season as three tournaments and two matches were rained out. In tournament play, the Lady Wolverines were fifth in the Highway 10 Tournament hosted by WDC and Staples-Motley. They also took fourth in the Mid-State Tournament and third in the Lions Tournament in Wadena.
The Lady Wolverines picked up their first win in the season finale by a score of 4-3 over West Central. In the first round of section play, the Lady Wolverines defeated Upsala-Swanville Area 5-2. They were eliminated by state-entrant Staples-Motley 0-7 to finish the season with a 2-9 record.
Also receiving team awards at the banquet were:
- Hustle Award: Kayla Guck
- Most Improved: Andrea Jensen
- Spirit Award: Jackie Kramer
- Wolverine Team Player Award: Emily Ament
