Wolverine senior Katie Anderson capped her tennis career Tuesday with a strong showing in the Section 6A Individual Tournament at Courts Plus in Fargo, just missing out on a trip to state.
On Monday, she defeated Mikayla Paulson of West Central Area 6-1, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals against Rachael Grundman of Osakis.
Grundman was able to avenge an earlier loss to Anderson, winning 6-3, 7-6.
"Both players are very talented and probably would split 5-5 if they played 10 matches," Wolverine coach Darin Carstens said. "Unfortunately, you only get one chance at moving on in sections."
The loss diminished Anderson's shot at a state berth but she bounced back on Tuesday morning to dominate Alayna Benzinger of Parkers Prairie 6-0, 6-0 to conclude her tennis career with a third-place finish.

Anderson started off the 6A East Subsection Tournament on Oct. 7 seeded No. 2 and opened with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jenna Atkinson of Long Prairie-Grey Eagle. She went on to defeat the third-ranked Laura Hintzen of Sauk Centre 6-4, 6-1 in the semi-finals.
Anderson lost to top-seeded Abby Edin of Staples-Motley 6-3, 6-4 in the subsection championship to finish as runner-up and earn a berth in the section tournament.
Carstens noted that Anderson finished her tennis career with more than 90 wins for the Wolverines, and the senior will be missed for her leadership.
