Geraldine "Jerry" Faye Askew, 90, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, at her daughter's home in Fargo.

She was born to A. Roy and Julie Mae (Garr) Miller on May 21, 1917, in Wadena. She married Robert Askew in Wadena. After their marriage, they lived on Governors Island in New York. They returned to Wadena where they owned and operated the SQ Inn. She also worked for a short time for the superintendent of Wadena schools. She worked in the Wadena County Auditor's office as a deputy auditor and then county auditor until her retirement. All together she worked in the auditor's office for 44 years. For the past six months, she had been staying with her daughter Jackye in Fargo. She enjoyed watching "Family Feud," buying shoes, word search puzzles, being at the lake, engaging in political sparring matches with her son-in-law and spending time with her family. She was known by many names: mom, friend, gramma and gramma-gramma. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Wadena United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Fair officiating. Honorary pallbearers were her great-grandchildren, Alex, Cody, Hayden, Kendall and Jaxson; Robert "Pee Wee" Edlund, Bonnie Durkee, Pauline Hess, Lilly Morton and Phyllis Burns. Active pallbearers were Melissa Patterson, Erica Hewitt, Paul Hewitt and Patrick Patterson. Burial was at the Wadena Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of Red River Valley. Arrangements were with Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena ( www.johnsonmemorialhome.com ).

Survivors include her daughter, Jackye (Chuck) Hewitt of Fargo; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Ralph Miller of New Ulm; 2 nephews and one niece and former grandson-in-law Patrick Patterson of Pelican Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents; cousin, Wayne Garr; sister-in-law, Irene (Ralph) Miller and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
