Jerome L. Felt, 60, died July 3 at his home in Sauk Rapids.
He was born June 21, 1946, in Bottineau, N.D., to Harold and Leah (Hemmerling) Felt. He attended school in Newberg and Notre Dame Academy in North Dakota. The family moved to Sebeka, where he graduated high school. He enlisted in the Marines and served his country in Vietnam from 1964-1968 where he earned numerous medals of valor including multiple purple hearts. He married Shirley Wattenhofer on June 14, 1969, in Two Inlets, Minn. He pursued a career as a professional truck driver until taking over the family farm near Sebeka. In 1987, he returned to his previous career working as a professional truck driver for Arfsten Transfer. In 1994, he moved to the St. Cloud area and worked as an owner/operator until 2000. He was a driver for Marson Contractors where he had been employed the last six years. Over the years he has been the head of the Jaycees, was a current member of the American Legion Post 456 in Sebeka and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, fishing, watching movies and mostly spending time with his family and grandchildren, whom he adored.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 6, at St. Cloud Veteran's Administration Chapel. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Jeff and Johanna Felt of Osage, Jennifer and Scott Ellingson of Avon, Justin and Amy Felt of Pelican Rapids, Jerome and Angel Felt of Park Rapids; mother, Leah Felt of West Fargo; sisters and brother, Carol and Tony Cote of St. Cloud, Kathy and Lawrence Prashek of West Fargo, Virgil and Cathy Felt of Redwood Falls; grandchildren, Jasmine, Jessica, Janesa, Madeline, Abigail and Mandy; great grandchildren, Jalyn, Rylan and Spencer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold; grandson, Brandon; and nephew, Dean.
