Jeanne Carol (Kauppi) Steinbach, 58, of rural New York Mills, lost her battle with cancer on Saturday, July 8, 2006.
She was born to Walter and Elsie (Bodas) Kauppi on Sept. 27, 1947, in Wadena. She attended country school in Leaf Lakes Township and graduated with high honors from high school in New York Mills in 1965. She was married Aug. 7, 1965, to William Steinbach in Holy Cross Church in Butler. She had two chikdren, Krista and Brent. She was employed by Aho's Insurance in New York Mills, New York Mills ISD 553, Land O' Lakes in Perham, Perham Eye Clinic and was employed at Seip Drug in New York Mills and Henning.
She cherished spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed finding special treasures for those she loved. She especially loved being a grandma. "Grandma Bruiser's" greatest pleasure in life was spoiling her grandchildren. "Grandma Cheese" could always be counted on for a hug and a kiss. She loved to laugh. She would often be seen with a smile on her face, sitting next to Billy holding hands. She lived life to its fullest.
She taught us all the importance of being kind and generous to others. It is that kindness and generosity that will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her.
Funeral services were held Tuesday July 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills with Pastor Jon Haakana officiating. Pallbearers were: Travis Olson, Don Lafferty, Steve Steinbach, Greg Johnson, Clyde Gimbel, and Larry Hodgson. Honorary pallbearers are Judy and Brian Olson. Interment is in Woodland Cemetery outside New York Mills. Arrangements were handled by Karvonen Funeral Home in New York Mills.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, William; her children, Krista (Leon) Moss, of New York Mills, and Brent (Missy) Steinbach of New York Mills; her grandchildren, Logyn and Taylor Moss, and Cody and Shelby Steinbach; sisters, JoAnn Hoyt of Wadena and Karen (Lanny) Marsh of Detroit Lakes; and her brother, John Kauppi, of Wadena. She is also survived by numerous relatives and a host of friends.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents.
