In a rare occurrence during its 19-year history, the Polar Fest Plunge into the icy waters of Detroit Lake has been postponed until Feb. 28.

The plunge, which is the Detroit Lakes Boys & Girls Club’s biggest annual fundraiser, will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, on the ice across from the Detroit Lakes Pavilion.

The club decided to reschedule its fundraiser because of the unusually cold temperature and wind chill that were predicted for last Saturday.

The other Pavilion events surrounding the fundraiser have also been rescheduled for Feb. 28. Another main event, the fishing derby, is among the events delayed. It will be 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 on the ice on Little Detroit Lake.

“We have a lot of plungers who come in from out of town who have raised pledges for our after school and summer programs… the potential is there that some of them won’t be able to make it on the rescheduled date,” said  Sue Trnka of the Boys & Girls Club of Detroit Lakes and Perham.
