Howard James McNitt, 90, of Rush City, Minn., passed away Dec. 21, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Rush City.
He was born Feb. 11, 1918, the son of John and Edna McNitt in Mason City, Iowa. He was baptized in Plymouth, Iowa, on Feb. 1, 1941. He married Jeanette Wilson and they had six children. The family moved to Staples in December 1950. Following Jeanette's death, he married Frances Herr on June 1, 1964. In 1968, they moved to Pine City, Minn. Frances died March 17, 2002.
He enjoyed farming and was also employed at Anderson Oil and Pure Oil in Cambridge, Minn.
Funeral services were held Dec. 24 at John's Lutheran Church in Rush City, Minn., with the Rev. John Beck officiating. Casketbearers were Gene Kuhlan, Lawrence Hill, Jerry Parkin, Clarence Peterson, William Yager and Ted Dake. Interment was at St. John Cemetery at Rush City. Arrangements were with Olson Funeral Home of Rush City.
Survivors include his children Mary Baldwin, Marlys Reiser, Larae (Jesse) Halaharui, Roland (Pat) McNitt, Russell (Kathy) McNitt, Edwin McNitt; stepchildren, Tom (Donata) Herr, John (Barb) Herr, Nancy Williams, Margaret (Wilfred) Schwartz, Sharon (Ervin) Mullner, Ethel (John) Becker, 31 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edna McNitt; wives, Jeanette and Frances; sisters, Margaret Lehman and Alise Heidenrich; stepdaughter Irene Goodman; and two grandchildren.
