Brandon Schmitz and Sonja Kern were named the 2010 Homecoming King and Queen for Wadena-Deer Creek High School on Sunday evening at Memorial Auditorium. Brandon is the son of Tom and Mary Schmitz and Sonja is the daughter of Joe and Linda Kern. The 2009 King and Queen, Kevin Tumberg and Hannah Toedter, were at the coronation to officially crown the new king and queen in dramatic fashion as they passed the crowns over the candidates' heads.
Homecoming week kicks off with coronation, followed by a host of activities throughout the week. The festivities will culminate on Friday with a parade at 2 p.m., the WDC Burger Bash from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by the homecoming football game pitting the Wolverines against the Pequot Lakes Patriots.
