Henry (Hank) B. Quiring died July 18, 2006, after a battle with cancer.
He was born March 4, 1917, at Mountain Lake, Minn., the son of Bernard and Hattie (Haygood) Quiring. He attended country school northwest of Mountain Lake. He entered the United States Army in April 1941 at Camp McCoy, Wis. He served during World War II in Europe and Africa and was honorably discharged from military service in September 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was united in marriage to Dorthy Willms on Sept. 14, 1946. They lived in the Springfield, Minn., area, where he worked in a feed mill for a short time and then relocated to Ottawa, Ill. They lived in Illinois for five years where he was employed by Singer Sewing Company. They then moved back to Minnesota residing in the Staples area for several years. After retiring from Carter/Ringer in 1979, they resided in Wadena until 2005, when they made a move to Denison, Texas. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Wadena VFW Post 3922. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and remodeling houses. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
A funeral service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at St. John's Lutheran Church of Wadena. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Staples. Military honors will be provided by Wadena VFW Post 3922.
Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Dorthy (Willms) Quiring; two daughters, Sharon Graphenteen and husband Tom of Sherman, Texas, Debra Martin and husband Marlin of Wadena; two sons, Rodney and wife Delores of Sebeka, Darwin and wife Beverly of Bells, Texas; and his faithful companion, Lucky; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and wife Rosemary of Lake Crystal, Minn., Ted of El Paso, Texas; and sister Marie Swastsky of St. James, Minn.
He was preceded in death by one son, Ronald; his parents; five sisters, Hattie Fast, Martha Statlander, Helen Quiring, Ruby Schulte and Anne Evers; and one brother, Ben Quiring.
