The Green Light group, which has discussed everything from increased tourism to sustainable agriculture in Wadena, has set its meetings as a brown bag luncheon at noon on the first Thursday of each month at the Depot. The April 2 meeting will concentrate on WDC school's long-term planning.

Green Light conversations originally were initiated several years ago by Jon Johnson (Johnson Funeral Home) and former superintendent of Wadena Deer Creek Schools. Meetings were held at 7:30 a.m. at the WDC District Conference Room. It served a useful purpose for some time.

At a regional tourism meeting in August 2008, it was decided to revive the group with a time set at 7:30 a.m. on the first and third Fridays of every month at The Depot.

The time and day seemed to be problematic, so the most recent group of attendees decided to try a new format, time and day. (No group owns Green Light. Whoever shows up makes the decisions.) Hence, the first Thursdays -- Brown Bag lunches with a short program followed by community dialogue.

This month you are invited to hear our new superintendent of schools, Dr. Virginia Dahlstrom, present a summary of the Wadena-Deer Creek strategic plan for 2009-2014. The WDC School Board went through two strategic planning sessions this February and worked to develop priorities for the district. Dahlstrom will present their collective vision for a healthy school district in 2014.
