The GOP wave has touched state legislature races in Wadena and Otter Tail counties.
Incumbent Republican Rep. Mark Murdock got out to a large lead in District 10B House in early returns. In Otter Tail County, with nearly half of the precincts counted, Murdock was ahead 1,851 to 736 over DFL challenger Pete Phillips. In Wadena County, with just three of 24 precincts in, the vote totals were 112-70 in favor of Murdock.
Incumbent DFLer Dan Skogen faces a tough battle from GOP challenger Gretchen Hoffman. With nearly half of the votes counted in Otter Tail County, Hoffman held a lead of 7,044 to 5,271 over Skogen. In three Wadena County precincts, Skogen led the vote count at 94-88.
County Auditor-Treasurer Char West led in very early returns, 118-56 over challenger Brian Hagen, but many votes remained to be counted.
Sheriff Mike Carr faces a write-in challenger, Tim Nolte. Though write-in votes aren't assigned to a candidate at this early stage, Carr had 99 votes to 73 write-ins in early returns.
