A strong response and an additional $5,000 in matching funds from the Minnesota Power Foundation has prompted the Initiative Foundation in Little Falls to increase its goal to $25,000 in online donations made to the Wadena Tornado Relief Fund.
The original goal of $12,500, set by matching funds from the Initiative Foundation and West Central Initiative, was met within 24 hours of announcing the website's address on Tuesday.
"The devastation is incredible, yet the response from the community has been what's truly amazing," said Kathy Gaalswyk, Initiative Foundation president. "We are so proud to be partnering with other area organizations and community leaders to support Wadena as they access the damage and start on the journey to recovery. This is not only an opportunity to rebuild, but to thoughtfully consider how to create an even stronger and more vibrant community for the future of families and businesses. We are eager to assist with this effort."
The Initiative Foundation, in partnership with the Mid-Central Federal Savings Bank, is accepting donations and administering the online Wadena Tornado Relief Fund at www.givemn.org . (Donors should click on the "Wadena Tornado Relief" link.) One hundred percent of tax-deductible donations will go directly to Wadena city, county and community organizations meeting the needs of impacted families and to help with volunteers and clean-up efforts.
