Germaine Bertha Forcier, 76, of Menahga, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, while at the St. Cloud Hospital with her family at her side.

She was born Jan. 26, 1931, at Bird Island, Minn., the daughter of Alfred J. and Rosalia (Muench) Lingl. She was a partner on their family farm and an accomplished gardener of both vegetables and flowers for the enjoyment of everyone including her hummingbirds.

She was an avid fisherwoman and could easily out-fish anyone in the boat. Her last catch was a little one -- 11 pounds! She was good at anything she tried and succeeded at all. She was a housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a superb cook. She worked at the River Inn and Ted and Gens in Aldrich, Minn., while she lived in Verndale. She was an excellent chef. She also worked as the kitchen supervisor and head cook at the Bell Hill Recovery in Wadena until her retirement in 1996.

She married Oscar J. Forcier on Nov. 26, 1949. They moved to their cabin in Menahga in 1990 where she welcomed guests with fresh coffee and cookies. She was complimented on making the best potato salad ever!

Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Sept. 6, at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis. Active casketbearers were grandsons Mike, Orlando, Joseph, Robert, and Benedict Butler, Edward, Jr. and Gerad Forcier. Burial will be held at the St. Frederick's Catholic Cemetery in Verndale at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Nevis.
