George Sharon

George L. Sharon, 71, of Ottertail, passed away unexpectedly March 1, 2009, at the Perham Memorial Hospital and Home.

He was born on April 8, 1937, in Sheldon, Iowa, to John Elmer and Bertha Christina (Eihauser) Sharon. While still in high school, he enlisted in the Navy, where he served from June 25, 1955, until his honorable discharge on June 24, 1957. He spent some time farming in Iowa. He later became a union crane operator in the Minneapolis area. One highlight of his career occurred in 1986, when he helped erect the St. Paul Winter Carnival Ice Castle. In 1997, he moved to Ottertail to be with his life companion, Clarice. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards with neighbors and friends. He especially enjoyed time spent with his buddy Kenny, in Presho, S.D.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 4 at the Belmont Funeral Home in Henning with the Rev. John Okan officiating. Arrangements were provided by the Belmont Funeral Home of Henning.

Survivors include his four children, Doris Klein (Walt), Hospers, Iowa, David Sharon (Lisa), Sioux Falls, S.D., Dale Sharon (Nancy), Fairview, S.D., and Darryl Sharon of Caledonia, Minn.; many grandchildren and great- grandchildren; his companion Clarice, and her two children, Kelly Christensen, Hillman, Minn., Kirstie Walheim (Wes), Otsego, Minn., and grandchildren; and four brothers, Robert, James, Franklin and Chris.
