George Lipinski

George Michael Lipinski, 67, of Hewitt, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.

He was born Jan. 22, 1942, in the St. Cloud Hospital to Catherine Dorothy (Thielman) Lipinski-Merdan. His father, George Bernard Lipinski, passed away before he was born. On Oct. 5, 1944, his mother married Joseph Merdan and together they raised him and his brothers and sisters in Stearns County.

On May 8, 1962, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Merdan at St. John the Baptist Church in Collegeville, Minn. They moved to Hewitt in 1976. He worked as a carpenter, dairy farmer, artificial inseminator for Sire Power and Select Sires, and was a cook at the Pine Cove Inn in Wadena. In addition to reading and working on his carpentry, he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and volunteered as a firearms safety instructor for 28 years.

The Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, March 5, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with the Rev. Daniel Walz presiding. Honorary pallbearers were Alvin and Barbara Finn, Richard and Judy Kassube, Luana Sibert, Wes and Leona Truax, Amber Kimber, Missy Kassube, Heather Lipinski, Daniel Lipinski and Matthew Lipinski. Pallbearers were grandsons John Kassube, Mark Kassube, James Kassube, Andrew Lipinski, Anthony Lipinski and Dean Lipinski. Interment was in the Oak Valley Cemetery at rural Hewitt. Domian-Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements ( www.domian-anderson.com ).

Survivors include his loving wife of 46 years, Betty; children, George J. (Marlene) of Hewitt, Christine (Donald) Kassube of Eagle Bend, Gerald (Deanna) of Hewitt, Theresa (Dale) Topp of Hewitt and Thomas (Corinne) of Hallock; 11 grandchildren and soon-to-be one great-grandchild; his brothers, Michael (Janice) Merdan and John (Jane) Merdan, both of Avon, Minn.; and sisters, Irene (Larry) O'Rourke of Moorhead, Ione (Tom) Jacobs of St. Cloud and Mary (Al) Eisenschenk of Avon.

He was preceded in death by his father, George B. Lipinski; mother and step-father, Catherine and Joseph Merdan; and a niece.
