Frazee woman gets jail for stabbing husband in the back with kitchen knife

Chanel Michelle Schmitz, 41, of Frazee was sentenced in Becker County District Court on a felony charge of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

On April 4 at about 2:50 a.m. she come home intoxicated, attempted to argue with her husband, who was sleeping and stabbed him in the back with a kitchen knife as he lay in bed, according to court records. She then fell asleep in another bed. Her husband was able to get help.

On Sept. 25, District Judge Joe Evans ordered her to serve 120 days in jail and pay a $1,000 fine plus court fees.

She was placed on probation for seven years. If she successfully completes probation, the charge will be dismissed.
