A shed full of straw bales burned to the ground Friday, Aug. 9, near Staples.

The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a structure fire at 10:14 p.m. in section 27 of Thomastown Township. Emergency personnel arrived to find a shed on fire. In speaking with the home owner, Bruce Berg, of Staples, it was learned that his brother, Kenneth Berg, of Staples, was stacking straw in the shed.

The shed was left for a short time to retrieve more straw and when they returned, the straw and shed were on fire. The shed and approximately 500 large square bales were a complete loss, according to a Wadena County Sheriff's Office news release. It is unknown how the fire started and no foul play is suspected. No other structures were damaged and no one was injured.
