Faye Othelia Bauer, 98, of Bertha, passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the St. Eligius Health Center in Duluth.
She was born April 17, 1910 in Wadena to Jake and Eldora Barnhart, and lived her early years on a farm outside of Bluffton.
She married Joe Bauer of Bertha on April 28, 1939, at Randall, Minn. She worked in several restaurants as a cook and waitress. After 20 years as a cook for the Bertha-Hewitt School, she retired and enjoyed her retirement years with Joe. They loved to dance and did so into their late 70s and early 80s. They were active members of the Senior Citizen's Center in Bertha.
Due to health reasons, she moved to Duluth to be closer to her daughter and family. She lived in assisted living and then in the nursing home. She was selected queen one year at St. Eligius Health Center and rode in the Spirit Valley Days parade. The staff at the home were her second family.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Faith United Church of Christ in Bertha with the Rev. Orville Sauter presiding. Pallbearers were Ralph Lorenz, Robert Lorenz, Colton Lorenz, Dennis Skarman, Dick Johnson and Doug Kapphahn. Interment was in the Peace Evangelical Cemetery in Bertha. Survivors include her daughter, JoAnn (Gary) Lorenz of Proctor, Minn.; stepchildren Marlys Peterson of Hewitt, Rosella Smith of Hugo, Minn., and Donald (Jane) Bauer of Crystal, Minn.; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1990; parents, Jake and Eldora Barnhart; brother, Owen Barnhart; and sister-in-law, Dora Barnhart.
