FARGO — A Moorhead man accused of biting off part of a downtown Fargo bartender’s finger this weekend claims he was choked during the altercation, according to court documents.
Dylan Jacob Reitan, 24, appeared Tuesday, June 7, in Cass County District Court on a felony charge of aggravated assault that caused permanent loss or impairment.
Court documents state Reitan was in Fort Noks with his brother, Austin Reitan, before 2 a.m. Sunday. Bar employees asked the two to leave because the bar was about to close, court documents said.
The Reitans, who claimed their brother owned the bar, got into a fight with Fort Noks employees, court documents alleged. One employee who lost the tip of his left pointer finger said Dylan Reitan bit the tip off, though “no other person witnessed this,” police said in court documents.
Dylan Reitan claimed he was choked by a “Mexican person with a beard,” according to court documents. Police did not know who allegedly choked the defendant.

Austin Reitan had not been charged in connection to the incident, though police alleged in court documents that he kicked one person’s face and punched another in the head.
Prosecutor Joshua Traiser declined to comment on whether Austin Reitan would face charges.
Attempts to reach the owners and management of Fort Noks were unsuccessful Tuesday morning, and an attorney for Dylan Reitan was not listed.
