Applications are still being accepted for the Energy Assistance Program for the 2008-09 heating season. All heat types are eligible for help. Applicants listing wood as the main heat source will have their grants sent to a supplementary heating source if applicable or the electric company.

If you have used up your energy assistance grant and are low on fuel or are behind on your natural gas or electric bill you may be eligible for an Emergency Benefit/Crisis grant. Wadena County residents should call Otter Tail-Wadena CAC to see if additional assistance is available.

Most payments for natural gas and electricity will be paid in four equal monthly installments. For example, if your grant is $400, your energy company will receive four payments of $100 each. Delivered fuel vendors will still receive a lump sum payment. Benefits are also available for homeowner's experiencing problems with a furnace or heating system. This program is funded by the Minnesota Department of Commerce and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

People wishing to apply for Energy Assistance must provide proof of the last three month's income. Self-employed people must submit their most recent tax return.
