Elvin Julius Schwantz, 80, passed away Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital in Long Prairie.
He was born on July 31, 1927, to William and Annie (Pfeffer) Schwantz at home in Woodside Township. He married Mary Jane Prahl on Nov. 23, 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek.
They owned and operated their farm outside of Wrightstown. He served the Woodside Township community as a member of the Township Board and was a Woodside 4-H leader. He enjoyed bowling, reading and playing card games with his grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 22, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Bertha with the Rev. Blake Rickbeil presiding. Honorary pallbearers were Daniel Rose, David Rose and Christopher Rose. Pallbearers were Jason Schwantz, James Klokstad, Paul Schwantz, Seth Schachtschneider, Shane Schachtschneider, Robert Rose and Aaron Arndt. Interment was in the Woodside Cemetery at Wrightstown. Arrangements were with the Domian-Anderson Funeral Home in Bertha ( www.domian-anderson.com ).
Survivors include his son, John Elvin (Sharon) of Clarissa; daughters, Jane Ann (Richard) Rose of Broken Arrow, Okla., Patricia Kay (David) Slyter of Sabin, Minn., Carol Lynn Schachtschneider of Fergus Falls, Kathy Jo (Michael) Kottom of Eagle Bend, and Nancy Marie (Jason) Bachmann of Frazee; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Schwantz of Harris, Minn.; sister, Theresa Weber of Wadena; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 2001; parents, William and Annie Schwantz; brother, Leslie Schwantz; sister, Vergie Walker; and a great-granddaughter.
