Eat chocolate, drink wine, have fun. The fourth annual Wine and Chocolate event is from 7-11 p.m. Saturday. Feb. 10, at the Depot at 100 SW Aldrich Avenue in downtown Wadena.

The event, sponsored by Partners for a Healthy Wadena Region, includes wine tasting, various chocolates such as strawberries dipped in chocolate fondue, German chocolate cakes, truffles and other desserts like carrot cake. Also, cheese and baguettes, ales and non-alcoholic beverages will be served at the event. It is not a couples event, so bring a friend or sweetheart.

Volunteers have been busy setting up and decorating the Depot for this weekend's event.

A silent auction will be held featuring original art, romantic, wine-related gifts and more. Proceeds go toward Depot restoration, which is still in the bidding process. Project manager Kay Browne said fund-raising is going well but the group could use more money. The Wine and Chocolate event is the biggest fund-raiser for the Depot project, she said.

The Depot project went out for bid in October and the bids came in too high. The scope of work is being reduced and the project will go out for bid again soon. Part of the funding comes from a federal grant and it is a long, complicated process, Browne said. She anticipates completion of the work on the Depot this summer.

When the project is complete, the Depot will be a visitor center and railroad museum with rental space available for meetings or other events. The Partners office will be relocated to the depot and there will be various volunteer opportunities through the Friends of the Depot organization that will be forming.

Tickets for the Wine and Chocolate event are available at the Scrap Nook or call the Partners for a Healthy Wadena Region office at (218) 632-6665.
