Dennis Dean Tranby, 62, of Nevis, formerly of Deer Creek, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at home in a house fire.
He was born Feb. 4, 1947, to Frank and Josephine (Trunic) Tranby in Deer Creek. He grew up in Deer Creek and graduated from school there before joining the military. He served in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam War. After the military, he moved to Minneapolis, where he met his wife Kay. They were married on Aug. 23, 1969, until her death in 1994 after 25 years of marriage. In 1972, the family relocated to Nevis, while he worked in Minneapolis during the week and came home on weekends. After several years, he moved back to Nevis and was employed in carpentry. Later he was employed in various other jobs including cabinet making and assembly.
He enjoyed hunting, gardening, cross word puzzles, sculpturing, and carving and was an avid reader.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 4 at the Church of Christ Church in Nevis, with the Rev. Roger Olson officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Cease Family Funeral Home of Nevis is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his children, Angela (Dell) Karl of Nevis, Spencer Tranby of Akeley, Jennifer (Dana) Cirks of Sabin, Gabriel Tranby of Nevis, five grandchildren, Michael Tranby of Akeley, Vanessa Tranby of Akeley, Cole, Reid and Lane Cirks of Sabin, Minn.; eight brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Kay, sister Joyce and a brother, Gene.
