David James Cooney, 28, of Wadena and formerly of Waite Park, lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, July 4.
He was born on Nov. 20, 1977, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena to William Peter and Patricia Ann (Youngbauer) Cooney. He graduated from Wadena-Deer Creek High School in 1996. After graduation he attended Staples Technical College and earned a degree in graphic arts. With his degree in hand he went to work for Auto Trim & Sign in Waite Park in 1999, where he worked until earlier this year. He was active in his church and the Knights of Columbus. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, riding his ATV, computers and doing artwork. He was known for his bright smile and for making friends easily with all kinds of people. He will be missed by all of his family and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, July 7 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Wadena with celebrants Fr. Don Wagner, Fr. Michael Kellogg and Fr. Albert Holmes. Burial took place next to his father in the Calvary Cemetery in Wadena following the Mass. Pallbearers were Joshua Richter, Matthew Richter, Matthew Youngbauer, Donald Cooney, David Cooney and Devin Youngbauer.
Survivors include his mother Patricia of Wadena; sister Margaret Dukowitz of Motley and brother Jeff of Sebeka.
He was preceded in death by his father Bill.
