Community members are invited to attend two upcoming performances of Mixed Blood Theatre's "Daughters of Africa" this month on the Detroit Lakes and Wadena campuses of Minnesota State Community and Technical College.
The Minneapolis-based multicultural theater group will perform on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at 9 a.m. in Wadena and at 2 p.m. in Detroit Lakes.
Thomasina Petrus is the featured performer. "Daughters of Africa" is a music-driven history of the triumphs and accomplishments of African American women, which was written for Mixed Blood by award-winning playwright Syl Jones.
The one-woman show, a striking collection of profiles of both famous and forgotten remarkable women, is fueled by the songs of Lena Horne, Aretha Franklin and Queen Latifah.
Tickets are not required, and admission is free. Contact Mary Devine at (218) 402-0074 for more information.
