Cory Lance Vellieux, 29, of Wadena has been charged in Becker County District Court with felony domestic abuse -- violating an order for protection; gross misdemeanor giving a false name to a peace officer; and gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor DWI.
According to court records, at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 1, a state trooper saw a red Chevy Tahoe with hazard lights flashing pulled over on the side of a rural road in Becker County. Vellieux was standing outside the Tahoe with a woman. He smelled of alcohol and had an open bottle of Fireball whiskey between his legs, according to the criminal complaint. When asked to identify himself, he gave the name of a cousin to the trooper, later saying he was “scared” of the officer.
There was an active order of protection in Utah preventing him from being with the woman. Three more open bottles of Fireball were found in the Tahoe, according to court records. A preliminary test put his blood alcohol level at .14%.
Vellieux appeared Sept. 3 before District Judge Joe Evans, who set cash bail at $30,000 or bond at $30,000, with standard conditions of release, or bond at $100,000 with no conditions of release.
