Menahga man convicted in child-sex sting
A Menahga man was sentenced in Wadena County District Court for sexting with someone he thought was a 15-year-old girl.
Jon A. Burlingame, 52, Menahga, was convicted Wednesday, Dec. 12, for solicitation of children through electronic communication to engage in sexual conduct and a second count, engaging in electronic communication relating or describing sexual conduct with a child.
Burlingame was sentenced to 30 days local confinement, three years supervised probation and was fined $1,575 for the first count. No sentence was pronounced on the second count.
Burlingame pleaded not guilty to both counts.
According to the criminal complaint, between May 5-17, 2016, Burlingame communicated with a girl named "Sebrena." "Sebrena" was actually a Kittson County Sheriff's Deputy posing as a 15-year-old girl. Believing she was 15, Burlingame responded to her Craigslist posting, which stated she was "a fun loving girl looking for something new."
According to cell-phone text messages between the two, as stated in the criminal complaint, Burlingame engaged in sexual conversations, sent photos of himself in his underwear and asked the girl to send nude photos of herself.
Conditions of his probation include no use or possession of alcohol or drugs, with the exception of prescribed medications; must remain law abiding; most not possess or use any pornagraphic/sexually explicit materials; remain law abiding; no use of internet without approval from agent; cannot use of possess firearms, ammo or explosives; and he must now register as a predatory offender.
