Wadena County collected a total of $158,674.28 from social services programs in 2008, according to the annual collections report.

Social services' collections fall into nine categories:

  • Public assistance overpayments: $13,585.59
  • Fraudulently obtained public assistance overpayments: $8,097.75
  • Child welfare, social services out-of-home placements: $14,694.53
  • Child welfare, corrections department out-of-home placements: $16,240.82
  • Child care overpayments, medical waiver spend downs, miscellaneous: $3,486.89
  • Detox: $5,626.55
  • County burials: $5,562.54
  • Medical assistance recovery collections: $91,379.61

The county collected $248,719 in 2007. The large difference in the 2007 and 2008 numbers came in the area of medical assistance recovery. Collections in that area are unpredictable, according to Paul Sailer, the county's human
services director.
