The regular Wadena County Board of Commissioners Meeting was held Oct. 21, and a grant opportunity will be pursued and a new assistant county attorney hired after board action.

The Old Wadena Society presented a grant opportunity for the Old Wadena Public Park on the Crow Wing River Canoe Trail. The project is the "Miniature Set Design: Celebrating Life on Old Wadena" proposed by Mary Harrision. The project would enhance the existing educational wetwalk and complement the existing historical sites. The board approved a letter to appoint Harrision to implement the project.

Upon the recommendation of County Attorney Kyra Ladd, the board approved the hiring of Erin Stephens to fill the assistant county attorney position. Stephens' employment as assistant county attorney will be effective as of Nov. 8.

In other action, the board:

  • approved not charging for aerial pictometry photos of Wadena following the June 17 tornado;
  • approved payment of board bills;
  • approved payment of invoices on Auditor's Checks;
  • approved the FY 2011 annual budget for the Wadena Soil and Water Conservation District as presented;
  • approved payment of second half county levy allocation to Public Health in the amount of $99,892.50;
  • approved MCIT voting delegate and alternative of Commissioners David Schermerhorn and Ralph Miller, respectively;
  • and reviewed Community Corrections quarterly financial report.
