Community input sought for Design Team visit

If the chance to have your ideas turned over to architects and made into blueprints isn't exciting enough, a chance to win a flat-screen TV should help entice you to attend the Minnesota Design Team visit Friday night, Oct. 29.

If the chance to have your ideas turned over to architects and made into blueprints isn't exciting enough, a chance to win a flat-screen TV should help entice you to attend the Minnesota Design Team visit Friday night, Oct. 29.

The Minnesota Design Team is a group of design professionals who give their time to assist Minnesota communities plan for the future. Composed mainly of architects, landscape architects and city planners, the Design Team in one weekend will listen to input from community members about Wadena rebuilding wants and needs, and the next night will give a presentation on how it assembled those ideas.

The Design Team visit will include members staying with local host families, gaining input on the design needs of the community. On Friday, Oct. 29, a meal will be served at 6 p.m. at St. Ann's Parish Center, followed by the input meeting. At this meeting, a process of positive small-group discussions will be held to get insight from residents about how to rebuild Wadena's community center and other infrastructure. At that meeting, participants will qualify for a drawing for a flat-screen TV, a laptop computer and other prizes. There is no cost, and no RSVP is necessary.

Then at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, the Design Team presentation will take place at Memorial Auditorium. The team will talk about how it organized and integrated community members' ideas into a plan.

Organizers are hoping for a large turnout, especially for the Friday night meeting so the Design Team gets a diverse set of ideas from the community.
