Wadena-Deer Creek-Bluffton Community Education is offering a variety of classes in the next few weeks. Here's a rundown of those classes:
Beginning German
Whether you are brushing up on your German, or want to learn, this 8-week beginning German class will cover a basic conversational setting, such as ordering food, buying a train ticket, describing the weather and more. The course will cover the basic elements of grammar as well. There is a fee for the class.
Dates: Monday evenings, Jan. 23, 30, Feb. 6, 13 and 27

Make and Take Visual Supports
You will be introduced to various visual supports and shown how they can help you and your children with schedules, daily routines, transitions, meal times, bath times and more. Participates will make and customize your own visual supports to fit individual needs. There is a small fee for the materials.

Intro to Computers
This is a basic computer class for anyone who does not know much about computers. The instructor will help you better understand how to use your computer more effectively and safely. You'll learn about parts of your computer and how to use them, what an operating system is, what a computer program is, how to open and use basic programs, what files and file types are, where your files are stored, how to organize the files and folders on your computer, and how to copy files. However, this class does not include use of the internet. Hands-on class. Level: beginner. There is a fee for the class.

Internet Basics
Learn the basics of surfing the internet, using search engines to find websites of interest, online shopping, basic email such as sending/receiving messages, opening/sending attachments. If you know very little about your computer, Community Ed suggests taking Intro to Computers before this class. This is a hands-on lab class. Level: beginner. There is a fee for the class.

Learn about Facebook
Find out how fun social networking can be on Facebook. Instructors will get you set up with your own Facebook account so you can start keeping in touch with family and friends. Facebook is a social networking tool that can help you reconnect with long lost friends or relatives from anywhere in the world. The class will cover security issues and how information gets shared on Facebook, as well as outline what to include (or exclude) on profile pages and how to adjust the privacy settings. This is a hands-on lab class. Must have general computer/internet knowledge. Level: beginner. There is a fee for the class.

A Woman's Guide to Money Matters
This class offers a clear and practical investing education in a convenient and comfortable format. You will gain a better understanding of the key principles of saving and investing and also learn specific strategies to help you reach your long-term goals. Topics will include: A Woman's Guide to Money Matters, The Rules of the Road, Foundations of Investing, Finding Balance in your Budget, Making Sense of Retirement, Protecting What's Important, and How to Raise a Money-Smart Child. To register, call Heather or Cory at Edward Jones in Wadena at (218) 631-9111 to reserve space for yourself and a guest for this financial workshop by Jan. 27. There is a fee for the class.

To Be A Tree!

Learn about the basic parts of a tree by making your very own tree costume! Learn what each part of the tree does and look at the insides of some trees in our area. This is an indoor activity for PreK-sixth grade. Adults are welcome to help. The event is free of charge.
