Cardinal swim team takes third in triangular

The Staples-Motley/Wadena-Deer Creek/Verndale Cardinals girls swim team hosted Perham and Sauk Centre in a swimming and diving triangular on Aug. 28. The Cardinals finished third with 48 points, following Sauk Centre's 159 points and Perham's 111.

The Staples-Motley/Wadena-Deer Creek/Verndale Cardinals girls swim team hosted Perham and Sauk Centre in a swimming and diving triangular on Aug. 28. The Cardinals finished third with 48 points, following Sauk Centre's 159 points and Perham's 111.

Top five finishes for the Cardinals include Tonya Givans, Alicia Johnson, Kirstin Iverson and Catrina Brachard finishing third at 2:09.95 in the 200M medley relay. Johnson also placed third in the 100M backstroke. Fourth place finishes went to Branchard in the 200M freestyle and 100M freestyle, Johnson in the 200 individual medley and100M backstroke and Givans in the 100M breaststroke. The 400M freestyle relay team of Branchard, Givans, Johnson and Iverson placed fourth in 4:32.62.

The 200M freestyle relay team of Kreller, Weyer, Canning and Pasketwitz finished fifth in 2:15.95.

The Cardinals traveled to Minnewaska Tuesday to participate in a triangular and will head to the Big Lake Invitational on Saturday.
