A Brainerd woman faces a felony charge after allegedly swiping a purse from a Wadena bar and using a stolen credit card to go on a shopping spree which even she admitted "got selfish."
Amanda Renee Longie, 27, was charged Jan. 14 in Wadena County District Court with financial transaction card fraud. Court records indicate Longie twice used a credit card she took from a purse she stole at a bar -- once at a gas station, and once at a shopping center. Still frames from video surveillance contained in police files showed a woman believed to be Longie pushing an overflowing shopping cart out of the retail business.
The transactions totalled $577.12 in goods, both in the early morning hours of Oct. 5, 2008, according to court records.
On Dec. 3, Longie was read her Miranda rights and taped in an interview, and admitted to using the card and signing the victim's name, according to court records.
According to the police report, Longie said when she went to the retail store, she planned to just get a few items she needed and use her own credit card, but then "got selfish and just started to fill the cart without worrying about the cost of any of it," according to a police report.
