The Wadena-Deer Creek boys basketball teams strong first half effort against Bertha-Hewitt ended in a two-point 60-58 loss on Dec. 6.
Behind full-court pressing and Dustin Syversons 12 points, the Wolverines raced to a 37-27 halftime lead.
It shouldve been enough to put a scare in the Bears, but instead Bertha-Hewitt came out in the second half to stifle the Wolverines offense while attacking the basket.
Syverson would finish with 20 points, with four coming from beyond the arch, and Dan Lepper added 16 points for the Wolverines.
The early season game saw a high number of free-throw attempts as the Wolverines connected only 10-for-20 from the charity stripe, while the Bears made 22-of-34.

The Bears were led by Michael Riewers game-high 21 points.
Any aftereffects of the close loss to Bertha-Hewitt two nights earlier didnt show as the Wolverines used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Sauk Centre 69-57 on Dec. 8.
Three Wolverines reached double figures with Syverson once again raining threes, connecting from downtown four times for 13 points on the night. Erik Johannes came off the bench and connected 6-for-9 from the field for 13 points and Nolan Buresh had 10 points.
Other Wolverines contributing were Nate Richter with eight points and eight rebounds, Brent Malone and Steve Miley with seven points and Dan Lepper with six points and five rebounds.
The Wolverines had only 10 turnovers in the game.
On Tuesday, the Wolverines traveled to Pequot Lakes for a conference battle with the Patriots and then will head to Detroit Lakes on Friday.
