William Bill Heino, 97, died April 20, 2006, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
He was born March 19, 1909, at Tower. He lived there with his mother, Justina, and stepfather, Frank Heino, and brothers and sisters until moving with the family to Red Eye Township near Sebeka in September 1917. He lived on the family farm and attended school at a nearby country school through eighth grade. On Dec. 24, 1932, he married Esther Carpenter at New York Mills. His accomplishments included driving a fuel delivery truck for the Sebeka Co-op, driving school bus for Sebeka schools and working as a chief boiler engineer for the local milk drying facility owned by the Land O Lakes Company.
A service was April 24 at Grace Lutheran Church in Sebeka with the Rev. Ray Hendrickson officiating. Active casketbearers were Bills grandchildren Nick Heino, Michael Heino, Andrea Stevens, Chris Heino, Gina Campidilli, Deb Hodgkins, Terry Ollila and Billy Schleder. Burial was in Sebeka West Cemetery. Honorary casketbearers were his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and the Fair Oaks Lodge Staff, his friends. Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four sons, Bill (Pat) Heino of Shell Lake, Wis., Jack (Mary) Heino of East Moline, Ill., and Ted (Pam) Heino and Mike (Sharon) Heino, both of Sebeka; four daughters, Darlene (Richard) Bird of Louisville, Ky., Alice Ollila of Sebeka, Judy (Holger) Nielsen of Wadena and Twyla (John) Riski of Minto, N.D.; four sisters-in-law, Ruth, Ethel, Joy and Helen; one brother-in-law, Ed; 26 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his father, Jacob Leinonen; mother and stepfather; six brothers, Arvid, Waino, Carl, Walter, Urho and Arthur; three sisters, Martha, Laura, and Alice; and one infant granddaughter.
