Dan Lorentz was diagnosed with colon-rectal cancer on July 1, 2008. He had been undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments until Nov. 24. He has had three surgeries since his diagnosis with the first one on July 6, the second in mid-September and on Nov. 26 he had emergency surgery in Alexandria for the removal of a portion of his small intestine.

After surgery, he spent seven of his 15-day hospital stay in ICU, part of the time on life support.

Since being diagnosed, he has traveled to specialists in Fergus Falls, Alexandria and the MOPHA Clinic in the Twin Cities for tests and consultations. With continuing medical care the prognosis looks good.

Dan has been married to Pat for 37 years and is the father of five adult children and six grandchildren. Dan has been a Wadena business owner, Dan's Painting, since 1977. Throughout the years, he has been active in the community, church and school.

A benefit dinner will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 5 at the Verndale Community Center. Ham, mashed potatoes, corn, bread and bars will be served. A free-will offering will be taken, and a silent auction will be held.
