The Wadena City Library is wrapping up its annual children's summer reading program with a special performance by members of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra Friday, Aug. 6.
The free public concert will be at 7 p.m. on Friday Aug. 6 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Wadena (across the street from the library on the corner of Colfax and First Street Southwest). The concert will feature one of America's best known and best loved pieces of music -- Copland's "Appalachian Spring" -- and a new composition by Twin Cities composer Joe Adams called "Quiet Landscape," which features tenor Matthew Goinz.
Adults and children can also join orchestra conductor Dr. Beverly Everett and composer Joe Adams at the Wadena City Library from 2-4 p.m. She will be showing a film and talking about both pieces of music. There will be a question and answer period for the composer as well.
Following the concert families that participated in the library's annual summer reading program will be asked to adjourn back to the library for the prize drawings. Prizes this year include bikes, scooters, iPod players and more.
