Bill Gilroy, an Aldrich native, has taken over as the new Verndale police chief.
He was introduced to the Verndale City Council at the regular meeting on Monday.
Gilroy replaces Jonathan Cline, who resigned in February to work with the Aitkin County Sheriffs Department.
After Clines resignation, Mike Helle, Henning police chief, served as the Verndale interim police chief. Gilroys first offical day as the Verndale police chief was Monday.
He comes to Verndale after living in Moorhead. He grew up in Aldrich and attended high school in Staples. He wanted to move back to his home area.

Moving back to this area is a plus, he said in an interview.
His work experience includes the Clay County Sheriffs Office, Dilworth Police Department and Glendon Police Department.
He enjoys law enforcement, especially helping people, he said.
People view law enforcement as working with only bad things, but it can go into communities and prevent bad things, he said.
The Verndale police department planned to help with a pre-prom awareness class in the high school on Tuesday and with Hoots and Toots Family Fun Night May 9, according to the Verndale police report presented at the city council meeting.
In other business, the council:
" Listened to the maintenance report. The baseball association will replace a backstop fence, install a 24-foot-high chain link fence and build a new concession stand. The baseball association will pay for the projects. Jim Bergquist, maintenance supervisor, will request bids for Sixth Avenue south and South Lane paving and bids to replace some sidewalks.
" Approved a bid of $8,450 for the maintenance department shops roof repair. Buttweiller will remove all old roof layers, install rubber roof over side walls and cap the roof with metal.

" Listened to the clerks report. The Board of Review for Taxes will meet at 5:30 p.m. May 17.
