Alcohol a factor in crash with tree resulting in life-threatening injuries

WADENA COUNTY, Minn. -- A woman suffered injuries that were life-threatening Wednesday evening, Jan. 31, after her vehicle went into the ditch and hit a tree.

WADENA COUNTY, Minn. - A woman suffered injuries that were life-threatening Wednesday evening, Jan. 31, after her vehicle went into the ditch and hit a tree.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that 59-year-old Jeanette Marie Karkinen, of Menahga, Minn., was southbound on Highway 71 near 384th Street when at 5 p.m., her 2017 Chevrolet Spark went off the road and struck a tree.

Karkinen was taken to Park Rapids Hospital with injuries that were life-threatening.

The patrol reports that it is unknown if she was wearing a seat belt and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
