1 dead following early morning crash, car fire
A vehicle occupant is dead after their vehicle went off road, rolled and started on fire early Sunday morning.
The victim's identity was not yet released.
On Sunday, May 12, at approximately 2:16 a.m., the Wadena County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a vehicle upside down in a ditch that was on fire in section 3 of Shell River Township, according to a Wadena County Sheriff's Office news release. Law enforcement and fire department personnel arrived on scene to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. As the fire department worked on extinguishing the fire, a victim was located inside. The fire department was able to extinguish the fire and the victim was removed.
It appeared as though the vehicle was traveling southbound on 199th Ave, just south of the Hubbard County Line Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and entered the west ditch. Once in the ditch, the vehicle hit an approach and rolled several times before coming to a rest on its roof.
The victim was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy and positive identification.
The Wadena County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Menahga Fire Department, Menahga First Responders, Menahga Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, State Fire Marshals Office, K&K Towing and the Wevley Funeral Home.
