Winter storm Wesley has opened up over west central Minnesota, and with it come area closings.

By about 1 p.m. Thursday, a heavy snowfall had begun in Wadena with gusting winds that were causing slippery snow covered roadways. Just before 2 p.m. a couple claps of thunder rang out over Wadena. Snow was expected to continue into Friday night according to the National Weather Service.

A few area closures include:

• Wadena-Deer Creek Schools announced a Thursday closure on Wednesday.

• Verndale Public School closed at 1:45 p.m. Thursday.

• Sebeka closed school at 1:35 p.m. Thursday.

• Menahga and Bertha-Hewitt schools were closed Thursday.

• Tri-County Health Care closed all their clinics at 2 p.m. Thursday and the ReadyCare was set to close at 5 p.m.
