There are 10 young ladies vying for the crown and title of Miss Wadena at the pageant June 17. Each contestant is judged in five categories. The personal interview portion of the competition, which is held in the afternoon on the day of the event, accounts for 35 percent of the scoring, talent is 30 percent; evening gown is 15 percent; casual wear is 10 percent; and the on-stage question accounts for 10 percent of each contestant's total scoring.

This year's contestants are Raine Curtis, Taylor Dirks, Kirstan Finn, Maxine Junker, Ashley Lehmkuhl, Hayley Maloney, Gabi Ross, Maggie Schmitz, Emma Taggart and McKayla Woods. Miss Wadena 2016, Hannah Vorderbruggen will be relinquishing her crown to one of these candidates.

Each contestant selects a Little Attendant that accompanies them to parades, area pageants and some public events, undoubtedly picking up some of the same skills. However, the Little Attendants are not judged.

Tickets are available from any of the contestants and at Thrifty White Drug in Wadena. Advance tickets are $5 and $6 at the door. Under four is free. The doors will open at 6:15 p.m. the evening of the pageant.
