Swenson named publisher of Perham, Wadena newspapers
Melissa Swenson, a longtime leader within Forum Communications Company, has been promoted to publisher of the Perham Focus and Wadena Pioneer Journal, company officials have announced.
As publisher, Swenson will oversee all newspaper operations at the two properties. She will split her time between Perham and Wadena.
"I look forward to the opportunities and challenges of my new role as publisher of these two newspapers," Swenson said. "Both of these communities deserve to have strong newspapers that play a vital role in the community, and that is what the staff and I will strive for every week."
With a strong background in marketing, public relations and journalism, Swenson started her career with FCC as a regional marketing director in 1999. Working primarily with FCC's Lakes Newspaper Group of weekly newspapers in the lakes area of Minnesota, she has also served as advertising manager of the Perham Enterprise Bulletin, New York Mills Herald and Wadena Pioneer Journal at various points throughout the past 15 years.
In 2010, she was promoted to general manager of the East Otter Tail Focus, which later became the Perham Focus.
Lakes Newspaper Group Publisher, Jody Hanson, said, "We are very fortunate to have Melissa as publisher of the Wadena and Perham newspapers. This is a very important role in these communities. Swenson has an outstanding ability of listening to the needs of their news and advertising customers. She will manage the offices in the two cities as well as provide leadership to these award-winning newspapers."
FCC is a multimedia information company based in Fargo, N.D. The company owns more than 35 newspapers, 40-plus websites, television and radio stations and commercial printing plants in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
