At the Nov. 3 county board meeting, Wadena commissioners approved a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for a new Verizon cell phone tower in Sec. 20, Wadena Township, south of the City of Wadena. The 190-foot tall tower will be placed on property belonging to Steven and Sandra Rentz.

The tower and an equipment shelter near the base of the tower will be contained within a fenced compound. The tower will be set back 230 feet from the eastern property line and right of way for U.S. 71.

The new tower will significantly improve Verizon's network coverage for customers, according to the CUP application.

The Wadena County Planning Commission considered and recommended approval of the CUP for the tower at its Oct. 16 meeting.

In other business, the board:

• Accepted the resignation of April Avelsgard from the position of permanent part-time jailer/dispatcher, effective Oct. 22.

• Approved the hiring of Landyn Saewert to fill the position of permanent part-time jailer/dispatcher with a start date of Nov. 5.
